Board

Between three and six parents serve on the board of directors at Humpty Dumpty. Their jobs include administrative duties such as chairperson, treasurer, secretary, personnel, insurances etc., as well as being the staff's formal employers. All parents participate in the running of the school in any way they are able. A substitution administrator makes sure that substitutes are found when needed. An 'odd jobs' coordinator organises and delegates all the little practical jobs which need to be done.

The Board is elected democratically at the annual general meeting and they retain their positions until next annual general meeting.

The board meets once a month or more if needed. Agendas and minutes are distributed to all parents by email. Parents who would like to have a certain topic discussed at a board meeting should contact any board member on receipt of the board meeting agenda.

Board member roles

Staff representative
One staff representative, normally the Head teacher attends the meetings and also holds a voting right.

Chairperson
Spokesperson for the nursery. Coordinator of the board work. Contact with authorities and safeguarding the school's objectives.

Treasurer
Responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of accountant and auditor and keeping track of the financial matters of the nursery.

Personnel
Assists head teacher when recruiting new staff. In charge of salary information adjustments. In charge of organising staff development meetings together with other board member. Available for staff for all personnel-related matters.

Premises
Keeps track of all maintenance, repairs and improvements necessary in the nursery. In charge of cleaning days. Contact with landlord.

Secretary
Writes the minutes of the board and general meetings. Makes sure meeting agendas are distributed in time amongst the members.

Assistants to the Board

Admissions coordinator
First point of contact for prospective families. Keeps track of waiting list. Organises school visits for families who are interested in a place at the nursery.

Substitution coordinator
Ensures that a substitute parent is found when necessary.
